“Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind.
Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality . Wake Up and Live!” —–Bob Marley
I always seem to get the best pictures when I’m wandering aimlessly in a new place. This time I landed in downtown Memphis, an area I really hadn’t had much of an opportunity to explore with my camera. Although I thoroughly enjoy living in the city, I really hate parking. Its almost never free and I never seem to have any money for parking meters. I ended up finding a fairly cheap parking garage. I only paid $4 and it was right in what seemed like the middle of where I wanted to explore. Got out the truck and I got my “August Rush” on and decided to follow the music. There was a local band playing in the park and I always thought it’d be neat to get some cool band photos.
The lead guitarist was a small guy with locks that seemed to be thoroughly enjoying his instrument and gave me the most emotion for the camera. The other two just seemed to be going through the motions with their instruments and that didn’t really resonate well on camera. I can’t begin to describe how good it felt to just go out and shoot without any plan or goal in mind, to just walk around and “see.” I haven’t done that in a long time. It felt great not to have the pressure of pleasing anyone but myself while I’m shooting.
I wanted to get closer but at the same time I didn’t want to invade their space. They had this huge, white bucket for tips and change. Most people have a hat but there’s was like a 10 gallon paint bucket that professional painters use. I wished I had had some change in my pocket or something so I could have left them some money. Something else I need to remember for my next trip downtown.

Are any of your photographs for sale? I love this image and I would pay to have it enlarged and matted. Your words complement the image beatifully. Chanell, in the words of Mraz, you’ve got it all.

This is one of the best works I’ve seen from you. The way you described the photo really adds to the piece as everything you say can be seen and felt just by looking. You really captured the true essence of the subject. I’m really diggin this piece a lot! And no doubt, the best work often occurs unexpectedly. for true artistic success flows naturally on it’s own cue. brilliant work Chanell!!
